Aryna Sabalenka had said during her pre-tournament press conference at Wimbledon that she was not completely fit to play in the marquee event.
“I’m not 100% fit physically. We’re doing everything we can to make sure we play the first match here, but no, I’m not 100% ready,” she said (via Punto de Break).
The Belarusian expressed her frustration over the injury, revealing that she endured pain throughout the previous month.
“It’s really frustrating. I’ve never been through a serious injury. It’s already a lot to go through now. The last month has been very challenging, I’ve been struggling with a lot of pain. It’s a mental battle as well, you have to find the positive side.”
Following her emphatic triumph at the Australian Open final earlier this year, Aryna Sabalenka’s best performance came at the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, where she reached the finals. However, the 26-year-old lost to Iga Swiatek on both occasions.
