Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (31) defeated American Jessica Pegula (6) in the second round of the 2024 Olympic Games.
This information became known through the broadcast of the match.
The match lasted 1 hour 49 minutes and ended with the score 4:6, 6:1, 6:3.
In the first set, the sixth-ranked player in the world dominated. But the Ukrainian player turned things around and played an almost flawless second set, only dropping one game.
The third round was definitely more intense, but there was no stopping the fire of the 29-year-old woman from Odesa. Overall, Svitolina:
served three aces;
had four double faults;
converted 5 out of 8 breakpoints.

In the next round, Elina will play against the champion of Wimbledon-2024, the Czech Barbora Krejcikova. The match will be held on Tuesday, July 30.
It should be noted that Svitolina is one of two Ukrainian tennis players who continue to compete in singles. Earlier, Marta Kostiuk defeated the French representative Clara Burrell in the second round.
As Rubryka reported, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina started the 2024 Olympic Games with a victory over Japanese Moyuka Uchijima, who is ranked 66th in the world.
Furthermore, Olha Kharlan, a talented athlete, brought Ukraine its first medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by winning the bronze medal in the individual saber fencing tournament.
Kharlan claimed the bronze medal after defeating Choi Soobin from South Korea. In the semifinals, the Ukrainian lost to French fencer Sarah Balzer, who is ranked second in the world and was the vice-champion at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. This led Kharlan to compete for third place. Her opponent was 23-year-old South Korean fencer, Choi Soobin, whom she narrowly defeated with a score of 15:14.

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. France is betting on the first Olympics in 100 years on its territory to show the world the best of the country.
Ukraine is sending the smallest delegation in its history to Paris, with only 140 athletes competing in 25 different sports.
