Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian delighted as American fencer Lauren Scruggs helps US women’s team capture gold at Paris Olympics 2024
Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian was delighted as American fencer Lauren Scruggs helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It is the second Olympic medal for the young fencer.
Team USA’s victory served as a comeback from their defeat by Italy in the bronze medal match three years ago at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Scruggs played an instrumental role in this redemption, helping the USA clinch a 45-39 win over their opponents. It is also an American team’s – men or women – first gold medal in fencing at the Olympics.Scruggs had clinched a silver on Sunday – in her first Olympic outing – and became the first black American athlete to do so in an individual fencing event. After Team USA’s triumph, she expressed her excitement on being surrounded by great athletes like Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky and Coco Gauff. She said (via NBC):
“It’s just crazy to always be surrounded by such amazing athletes and that just to be the norm. And I guess I am one of those amazing athletes. But it’s just kind of crazy to just be in that environment.”
Ohanian praised Scruggs on X (formerly Twitter).
“Well done, Lauren Scruggs,” the 41-year-old wrote.

Olympia has collected various souvenirs including pins and badges from different countries participating in the marquee event. Her father, Alexis Ohanian shared her collection recently on X.
“Olympia’s Olympic credentials. She was VERY excited to get the Armenia pin,” he wrote.

A fan later asked Ohanian where his daughter got the Kenyan wristband. The Reddit co-founder revealed that Olympia had requested a pin from a few Kenyan athletes who instead gave her a wristband.
“From some Kenyan players! She was so excited to meet them and ask for their pin (and they gave her an even better upgrade with that bracelet!)”

Ohanian is an American entrepreneur who met Serena Williams in 2015. The couple married two years later and have two daughters, Olympia and Adira River.
