Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Sacrifices Paris Olympics for Daughters as He Refuses to Break His Promise
Fill in the following blank from the perspective of Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian. “I loveee the Olympics but not more than____?” While some might jokingly suggest his wife or his successful podcast, “Business Dad,” as potential answers, the overwhelming consensus would undoubtedly point to “his daughters” as the true priority in his life. A stark choice between family and work confronted Ohanian on Friday. And his subsequent actions suggest a clear inclination towards family.

Ohanian’s love for sports is not new. And that can be reflected in his personal life as well ever since the 41-year-old married the tennis star. But besides tennis, he is equally a dedicated fan of Track and Field, an important event at the Paris Olympics. However, despite his love for the sport, he has failed to appear at the event albeit being in Paris. And the reason? His promise to his daughters!. Taking to his Instagram, Ohanian shared a video of himself as he discussed the Games and his whereabouts.
Speaking in the video, he said, “Alright, today is the start of the Olympic track and field. Now I am actually at Disneyland Paris right now because I promised my girls.” This clearly highlights that the ‘Business dad’ will not be able to make it to the games but he desires to multitask. “But I will be catching some of that later on,” he further said in the video. Just a few moments later in the clip, Ohanian revealed that he is currently at “Disneyland in Paris” as he promised his girls.

Despite being unable to mark his presence at the Olympic event, Ohanian has ensured to extend his support to the female athletes. Furthermore, he also wished good luck to the Track and Field athlete Veronica Fraley. Speaking in the video, Ohanian said, “Veronica, we are gonna be cheering for you. Get out there, throw that disc, be great.” For the unversed, Ohanian recently teamed up with Flavor Flav to help Fraley pay her rent after she revealed the challenges she was facing.
“I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent,” Fraley wrote on X on Aug. 1. “My school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new cars and houses.” Her post caught the eye of Flav, who replied that he would help her. “I gotchu… DM me and I’ll send payment TODAY so you don’t have to worry bout it TOMORROW… and imma be rooting for ya tomorrow LETZ GO,!!!” he wrote.
Ohanian is on a mission to cultivate the next generation of track and field stars. His venture, ATHLOS NYC, formerly known as the 776 Invitational, launched in July and has already made waves with high-profile signings. This women’s-only competition, featuring sprints, hurdles, and middle-distance events, aims to redefine track and field. In the same clip, Ohanian re-announced that if any of the 36 female athletes who are part of his Athlos NYC sportswear brand, win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, he would pay them $60,000 as a reward.

Ohanian’s upbringing was steeped in the world of American football. Tennis was a sport largely ignored during his youth, often met with channel-surfing by his father. While he casually followed basketball and baseball, his primary sporting focus was absent. This unique background brings a fresh perspective to his involvement in other sports. Free from the preconceptions of traditional approaches, Ohanian approaches each new sporting endeavor with an open mind. His admiration for athletes like Alex Morgan, Tiger Woods, and track stars is evident, and he is eager to learn from their experiences.

Shortly after, the father of two revealed how he fell in love with women athletes and what he hopes to get out of ATHLOS. “I watched my first track meet in Eugene [US Olympic Trials] and I felt so much love from these women. They were kind, supportive and felt seen, based on our idea…We’re looking for those adopters to be leaning in and thinking that this is dope. We want them to feel that they can be a part of it. We want folks to come away from three hours at ATHLOS and think ‘that was as much fun than any other sports event I’ve been to in New York’.”
As the tournament progresses, it would be interesting to see if the Reddit co-founder would take a break from his fatherly responsibilities and attend his favorite event in Paris.
