Serena Williams’ father has been caught speeding and fined in Palm Beach, Florida, despite experienced medical professionals warning the 82-year-old senior to stay away from the wheel of motor vehicles.
Richard Williams, born in 1942, was stopped on July 12 when he was caught by a police laser gun going at 44 miles per hour in a 35 zone, leading to him to incur a minor fine of $131 after his physician warned him he struggled with cognitive tasks such as following directions.

“You have had problems with driving and directions. We discussed this and you stated you now have a driver,” Dr. Monica Walker wrote in a letter to the courts regarding Williams’ mental capacity.
“Time, place, and person comprehension have not been part of your memory difficulty.
“However, driving demands quick decisions in situations of uncertainty. You are advised not to drive because you do not have the ability to do this.”
Williams has not heeded the warning however, and has been spotted driving himself, his wife and their child multiple times through recent years before the law finally decided to bite his hand with the fine.
It comes shortly after he repaired his marriage with Lakeisha Graham as the pair seemed destined to divorce in 2017 following seven years of matrimony together, spending years in court bitterly arguing before Graham’s attorney said they are in a, “romantic and sexual relationship” in July 2024.
How did Richard Williams help Venus and Serena Williams?
Williams played a pivotal role in the tennis success of his daughters, Venus and Serena, incredibly without prior tennis experience as he helped instil the fundamentals for the most dominant sibling sports partnership of all-time.
He meticulously planned their training from a young age, writing a 78-page plan and coaching them himself on public courts in Compton, California, emphasizing discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking as well as the confidence to succeed against the odds.
His unorthodox methods and unwavering belief in their potential led to Venus and Serena becoming two of the greatest tennis players in history, with Serena claiming 23 Grand Slam titles, 14 Grand Slam doubles and an 84% winning percentage.
Venus also crafted a fine career with seven Grand Slam singles titles and 14 Grand Slam doubles on her way to a 74% career win percentage and a place alongside her sister in the history books forever.
