Alcaraz’s journey to the Olympic final has been nothing short of extraordinary. This year has been a standout one for the young Spaniard. In spite of an early exit in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Australian Open at the hands of Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Alcaraz swiftly bounced back. He went on to claim triumph at the French Open in June, defeating Zverev in the final. His success didn’t stop there; he also won over Novak Djokovic in straight sets to defend his Wimbledon title.
Heading into the Paris 2024 Olympics, Alcaraz was seen as a top candidate for the gold medal. His performance in the men’s singles event has lived up to expectations. He commenced his Olympic campaign with a decisive win over Hady Habib, exhibiting his readiness and skill right from the very starting. Alcaraz continued his impressive form by overcoming Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands in his second match. In the third round, he delivered a breathtaking performance to defeat Roman Safiullin, further proving his prowess on the court.
In the quarter-finals, Alcaraz faced America’s Tommy Paul. The match was closely contested, but Alcaraz represented his exceptional talent and determination, winning 6-3, 7-6. This victory secured his spot in the semi-finals, where he would go up against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Alcaraz’s semi-final performance was dominant. He defeated Auger-Aliassime in a one-sided match, with scores of 6-1, 6-1. This victory not only secured his place in the gold medal match but also made him the youngest player to reach the men’s singles final since the sport’s reintroduction to the Olympics in Seoul 36 years ago.
In a statement following his semi-final win, Alcaraz expressed his excitement and forethought for the final. “It’s going to be a really special moment for me, in my life, in my career, so I’m going to try and enjoy this moment, because it’s going to be really difficult,” he said. Alcaraz also acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, “It’s going to be difficult, but it’s going to be special… I will try to be focused on myself and try not to hear all this, all the fans, all the people that say ‘I’m going to win’. I just want to give 100 percent my best tennis and hopefully I reach my goal to get the gold.”
Alcaraz’s opponent in the final will be determined from the second semi-final, which will feature either Novak Djokovic, the 2008 Beijing bronze medalist, or Lorenzo Musetti, who made it to the semi-finals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Despite of who emerges from this match, the gold medal clash promises to be an exciting and highly anticipated event.
As Alcaraz prepares for the final, the tennis world will be watching intimately to see if he can add an Olympic gold medal to his already impressive list of achievements. His journey through the Paris 2024 Olympics has been an evidence to his enthralling skill, resilience, and potential, and a gold medal would be a fitting conclusion of his notable year.
