Serena Williams and Jessica Pegula are two of the five American women to reach multiple WTA 1000 finals.
There has been a strong US charge at the Canadian Open in Toronto this week – led by Jessica Pegula.
The world No 6 has not had the easiest of seasons so far and was under pressure coming into the event this week, though is now a match away from a sixth career title.
Pegula faces compatriot Amanda Anisimova in the final on Monday, with the latter making her WTA 1000 final debut.
But this is familiar territory for third seed Pegula, who is now ranked third among the five American women to reach multiple finals at this level.
1) Serena Williams – 18
Williams reached 33 ‘Tier 1’ finals across her legendary career, with 18 coming since the 1000 format was introduced in 2009.
The first of those finals came in 2009 when she reached the final of her home tournament in Miami, beaten by Victoria Azarenka.
However, she would win the Miami Open for three straight years from 2013 to 2015, and dominated multiple other WTA 1000 events during this period.

She won the Italian Open three times in the space of four years and also won back-to-back titles at the Madrid Open and Cincinnati Open across the early-to-mid 2010s.
Her last WTA 1000 final came at the Canadian Open in 2019, where she retired with injury.
2) Venus Williams – 6
Unsurprisingly, the older of the two Williams sisters follows her youngest sister into second on this list.
Much like Serena, Venus won multiple ‘Tier 1’ titles prior to 2009, but also found some success in the format after that point.
She defeated Virginie Razzano 6-4, 6-2 to win the Dubai Tennis Championships final in 2009, and then downed Azarenka to successfully defend her title the following year.
Venus reached further finals in Miami and Madrid in 2010 and Canada in 2014, beaten on all three occasions.
However, she won the last WTA 1000 final of her career, defeating Garbine Muguruza to win the Wuhan Open in 2015.

3) Jessica Pegula – 4
One of the most consistent players on the WTA in recent seasons, Pegula now sits third on this list thanks to her exploits in Toronto this week.
Defying a challenging season to date, the 30-year-old has downed the likes of Karolina Pliskova and Diana Shnaider to reach a fourth WTA 1000.

She is in fact the defending Canadian Open champion, having beaten Liudmila Samsonova to lift the title in Montreal a year ago.
Before that, she reached her first WTA 1000 final back in the spring of 2022, falling to Ons Jabeur in Madrid before bouncing back and beating Maria Sakkari in Guadalajara later that season.
4) Madison Keys – 3
Another leading US player of her generation, Keys has contested three WTA 1000 finals across her successful career.

Keys was a surprise finalist at the Italian Open in 2016, beaten by Serena, before also reaching the Canadian Open final that year – losing to Simona Halep.
The American would go on to claim the biggest title of her career at the Cincinnati Open in 2019, defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final.
5) Sloane Stephens – 2
Former world No 3 and 2017 US Open champion Stephens is the fifth and final US woman to reach multiple WTA 1000 finals over the past 15 years.
After a strange run of form following that victory in New York, she captured the second-biggest title of her career by defeating Jelena Ostapenko to win the 2018 Miami Open title.
That was followed by a run to the Canadian Open final later that season, where she fell to Halep.
