Is Lexi Thompson Playing at the 2024 Women’s Scottish Open?

Will Lexi Thompson’s performance at the Women’s Scottish Open silence her critics once and for all?

“I’m so grateful to you for all the amazing moments and memories you have given me,” said Lexi Thompson in a video. The 29 YO announced her retirement from the full-time competition in golf, on her Instagram account, which she called a ‘love letter to golf.’ She is looking forward to what life has in store for her apart from the golf courses and enjoying her time with her loved ones.

However, Thompson had also stated to be enjoying her last season to the fullest. The 11X LPGA tour winner has represented the US six times at the Solheim Cup. Her last appearance was at the CPKC Women’s Open, where she managed to bag a T33 finish with a 1-under score. Now, with the ISPS Women’s Scottish Open approaching, will Thompson be a part of the field in Scotland?

The ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open is scheduled to be hosted at the Dundonald Links in Ayrshire, Scotland from August 15 to August 18. A few hours ago, the LPGA Tour posted the full 156-player field list on their official website. However, among the top names, Lexi Thompson was not on the list of the players.

This suggests that Thompson has already started taking her breaks from the golf course, and will not be a part of the field in Scotland. Although this season marks to be her final year, she was also not selected for the Paris Olympics. The 20 YO appeared in the International event back in 2016 and 2020 to represent her country. However, she failed to make a significant impact. Looks like she will not be able to show her feat of victory in the Olympics.

However, because of her exceptionally decorated career in the sport, she was given a grand tribute before her retirement. Here’s what happened.

Before playing at the CPKC Women’s Open, Lexi Thompson played at the Dana Open just a week ago. She bagged a T19 finish with a 7-under score, which was pretty average. However, the match was still special for her, as they announced the Friday round to be dedicated to her. “I’m honored that the Dana Open has chosen to recognize me on Friday of tournament week,” said Thompson.

She had earlier revealed her love for the Dana Open and how she loved to play because it always gives back to children’s charities. She has been a part of the LPGA Tour for 14 years, and according to Dana Open director Judd Silverman, this was the perfect time to honor her for everything she has done in the golf world. “Lexi has moved women’s golf forward while inspiring kids to follow their passion and dream big. I think she’s signed just about every hat, glove, ball, and flag handed to her and accepted countless requests from sponsors to make appearances on their behalf,” she said.
