Serena William’s husband Alexis Ohanian is celebrating a significant milestone for Athlos NYC, which recently gained recognition of a silver status by World Athletics. The event earned this achievement ahead of its first edition in the Olympic year.
The debut edition of the Athlos NYC will be held on September 26, 2024, at the iconic Icahn Stadium in New York City. With the recent development, Athlos NYC will now come under the World Athletics Continental Tour—Silver Meetings.The World Athletics grants the silver status accreditation to an event based on prize money and quality of organization for worldwide, international one-day meetings after the organizers agree to adhere to all rules, regulations, and decisions taken by World Athletics.

Initially known as the 776 Invitational, Athlos NYC is a female-only competition announced and powered by tennis legend Serena William’s husband Ohanian and will be headlined by Paris Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas.The showdown will feature six events, including the 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m. The female-only track event is poised to be one of the most-anticipated events after the Paris Games, given the lucrative prize money.The athlete dominating any individual event will bag a whopping $60,000, with the second and third-place finishers collecting $25,000 and $10,000, respectively. The next-place finishers will earn $8,000, $5000, and $2,500, respectively.

The Athlos NYC, a brainchild of former tennis ace Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian, will feature athletes, with six athletes competing in each of six events. Apart from multiple-time Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas, other Olympians, including Brittany Brown and Torrie Lewis, will also compete on Thursday.
