Alcaraz won the 2024 China Open, but he had little time to celebrate as he headed to Shanghai for another ATP 1000 tournament. After defeating China’s Wu Yibing on Sunday, the Spaniard is awaiting his Round of 16 match tomorrow. Before that, he filmed a short video about what’s in his bag for his racquet brand, Babolat. While revealing the never-seen-before items in his bag, Alcaraz shared a special item from a special person in his life that melted the hearts of many.
Inside Alcaraz’s bag, the fraternity found a box of grapes for snacking during off-match hours, a golf glove “just in case” because he enjoys playing the sport, sunscreen for sun protection, items gifted by his Chinese fans, a pen for signing autographs, and powder to control hand sweat.

Until this point, Alcaraz’s bag featured casual items for an athlete. He also showcased two Babolat racquets from his bag and proudly mentioned that he has seven. Along with wristbands and water bottles, Alcaraz’s most special item was a picture from his grandmother. “It’s my grandmother gives it to me. ‘you have to keep it’, ‘You have to keep it,”‘ Alcaraz said. The Spaniard confirmed, “So I keep it, yeah.”

One of the traits the Spaniard shares with his icon Roger Federer is a simple lifestyle. Despite his fame, Alcaraz lives with his parents and often reveals the urge to return to his family as soon as the end of his tournament. “When I finish a tournament, it doesn’t matter if I win or not, I just want to get home to be with my family. I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers. To them I am not a big tennis star, just a normal guy,” the Spaniard explained, highlighting how down-to-earth he and his family are. He also mentioned that his father and his hitting partner—his older brother—travel with him, while his mother takes care of his two younger brothers.

“Well, my father and my mom have a really good role. They try to pull me in the ground every time that I win a tournament or I win an amount of money, I’m not gonna lie, I’m not gonna hide. They always stay there to put my feet on the ground,” he said. Alcaraz’s statement emphasizes the family’s constant desire to maintain a normal lifestyle, which likely drives his wish to improve his game and focus on playing good tennis rather than just winning titles.
Carlos Alcaraz is undoubtedly a family man. Not only does he keep his grandmother’s good luck charm like an obedient grandson, but his gestures toward his Chinese fans are equally endearing. Such humility makes Alcaraz not only a champion but a true legacy-bearer of Tennis’ Big Three.
