‘Has Gotten Worse’: Injury Prone Lexi Thompson Makes Concerning Health Update, Delaying Availability Before Retirement
Can Lexi Thompson bounce back stronger, or is this injury a sign of tougher times ahead?
It was sad news for many when Lexi Thompson announced her intention to take a break. Still, taking a much-needed hiatus seemed like the best course of action, due to an injury to her wrist. Unfortunately, in what can only be described as bad luck compounded by misfortune, the injury seems to worsen with each passing day.
The 29-year-old golfer recently shared a post on her Instagram profile mentioning this. “Hope everybody is doing great!” wrote the athlete as she expressed gratitude for getting some time off due to the Asian Swing and the injury. “I’m very thankful I have some of this time off before the Florida swing,” she added, referring to the final two events of the 2024 LPGA Tour schedule.
Lexi Thompson also recounted the injury she suffered, explaining how she has still not fully recovered. “Unfortunately my hand pain has gotten worse as of recently,” she wrote, “Taken it day by day not trying to push it too hard and giving myself the rest that’s needed. Got to get back to pain-free hopefully for the end of year.” If everything goes according to plan, we may see a fully recovered LPGA Tour pro in good condition by the start of the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge on November 14. However, if the injury persists for another month, she may have to miss the event hosted by Annika Sorenstam in order to be ready for the finale.

Despite the hope, the recent update is a bit concerning for the golfer, especially since she teed off three weeks in a row after the 2024 Solheim Cup. Additionally, she traveled from Seattle to Maineville to Arizona during this period, which may have worsened her wrist condition. “Being my third week in a row, it’s been a bit rough on my hand again,” wrote Thompson in an Instagram post. “So I’m happy to have these next 4-5 weeks off to get some rest, make sure I’m 100% to finish the year, and put in the work as usual.”
What’s more, the thought of not being able to witness the golfer tee off professionally on the LPGA Tour would certainly not be happy news for many of her fans. While they undoubtedly wish her the best, the combination of her recent hiatus and the possibility of retirement feels like a significant blow to her admirers. They can only hope she recovers fully and follows through with her original plans.

A reporter had asked Thompson about the rest of her 2024 schedule ahead of the Solheim Cup. When faced with the query, the golfer had mentioned how she would tee it up at the Kroger Queen City Championship and the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship before heading to Florida. “For the rest of this year I plan to play the following two weeks in Cincinnati and then in Arkansas,” said the pro. “Then I’ll play the Florida swing at the end of the year.”
True to her word, Lexi Thompson participated in both events, finishing T19 in Cincinnati and T17 in Arkansas. As per her plans, she is set to tee off at the final two events of the Tour in Florida: the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge and the CME Group Tour Championship. But will she be able to do it? Her aggravated wrist paints a bleak picture, especially after her recent Instagram post.
