Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic used their wealth of tennis knowledge to discuss how the Serbian can improve his game ahead of the Australian Open.

The first Grand Slam of the season marks the first event that the former British number one is by the side of the 11-time winner at Melbourne Park.

Coach Murray has been closely watching Djokovic during their practice sessions this week, studying the ways in which he can help him return to his best level at his most successful tournament.

This is a pairing the tennis world has been keen to see in action ever since their partnership was announced in November, and things appear to be going well for the two legends so far.

What coaching technique did Andy Murry use that is different from Juan Carlos Ferrero?

Andy Murray is one of the newest coaches on the tennis circuit after ending his playing career as recently as August 2024.

His first coaching assignment being nine other than Novak Djokovic is a big one, but the pair have enjoyed some practice sessions together ahead of the Australian Open.

On Tuesday, Djokovic played a practice set against Carlos Alcaraz, and the difference in coaching techniques between Murray and the Spaniard’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, was very telling.

Novak Djokovic wins practice set against Carlos ahead of the Australian Open

Four days after his quarter-final final exit at the Brisbane International, Djokovic played a practice set against Alcaraz at Melbourne Park.

It was described as an intense and high-quality set of tennis, in which Djokovic won 7-5 and was credited to have served well at crucial moments, something he has done so often throughout his illustrious career.

This will be extremely useful for both players, with the pair now set for a possible quarter-final showdown at the Australian Open.

The draw for the Grand Slam has now been made and the pair could be set for their eighth showdown and a first Down Under.

Djokovic is trying to win the Australian Open for the 11th time while Alcaraz is searching for his first title, which would see him become the youngest player to win all four majors.
