During his on-court post-match interview, Fritz expressed gratitude to the fans for their support and apologized to American supporters for not being able to secure the title against the Italian champion.

“It’s been an amazing run and thank you to the fans for everything this week. Being an American at the US Open is just incredible, feeling love all week, so thank you so much,” Fritz said.

Eugenie Bouchard addressed the criticism surrounding Jessica Pegula, who was accused of using her billionaire status to secure a spot in the 2024 US Open final.

Pegula, the sixth seed and local favorite, was defeated 5-7, 5-7 by second seed Aryna Sabalenka in the championship match. After the loss, Pegula—whose parents, Terry and Kim, are billionaires and own several sports franchises, including the Buffalo Bills—faced backlash over her wealthy background. An X (formerly Twitter) user questioned why Pegula was being criticized due to her family’s wealth.

“I don’t get why Jessica Pegula gets hated because she is ‘the daughter of’ and comes from a wealthy family. She seems like a down-to-earth and fun person and worked her a** off to climb in the rankings. Just like EVERY PLAYER. You can’t buy talent and work ethic,” the account wrote.

Bouchard replied:

“Money can’t buy a US Open final lol.”

En route to her first Grand Slam singles final, Pegula defeated Shelby Rogers, Sofia Kenin, Jessica Bouzas, 18th seed Diana Shnaider, top seed Iga Swiatek, and Karolina Muchova.
