Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina is making the most of her off-court time with her one-year-old daughter Skai before heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Olympic bronze medalist looks forward to representing her country again at the quadrennial event.
Svitolina became the first Olympian to win a medal in tennis for Ukraine when she defeated Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the bronze medal match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Ukrainian is also a proud mother of Skai, who was born on October 15, 2022. Skai is the daughter of Svitolina and her husband, French tennis player Gael Monfils, whom she married in July 2021.The 29-year-old, currently ranked No. 30 in the world, has been enjoying some quality time with her family before heading to Paris for the Olympics, which will take place from July 27 to August 4. She shared a photo of herself and Skai, splashing water in the pool on her Instagram account on Saturday, July 20.

Svitolina recently concluded her 2024 Wimbledon campaign with a quarterfinal loss to fourth seed Elena Rybakina. The former World No. 3 had reached the semifinals of the grasscourt Grand Slam in 2019 and 2023, but could not match Rybakina’s power and precision in a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. Svitolina had beaten Magda Linette, Jule Niemeier, Ons Jabeur, and Wang Xinyu in the previous rounds.
Elina Svitolina will aim for her first Olympic gold medal in Paris, where she will have the home support of her husband Monfils, who is also competing in the men’s singles event.

In an interview with Roland Garros a couple of months back, Svitolina mentioned the difficulty she and Monfils face being away from their daughter Skai during tournaments. Although Skai’s grandmothers provide support, the couple strives to spend time with their daughter whenever possible between travel commitments.
“It is tough for us for sure to be apart from her, but I think it’s important that she has her routines at home, she has two grandmothers taking care of her. As soon as we’re done, we easily can go back, it’s a short flight and we’re there. We also try to balance it and see how she feels and how we feel, so it’s a family decision,” Svitolina said.
Elina Svitolina also remarked on how hard it is to enjoy tennis when it requires being apart from Skai, especially when her performance on the court is not as she hopes.
