Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz enter Olympic mode as they arrive at Roland Garros. The duo are registered in both the singles and the doubles draw at the Paris Games.

Nadal is already a seasoned campaigner at the Olympics, having won the singles gold in Beijing in 2008 while clinching the men’s doubles gold in Rio in 2016, when Marc Lopez was his partner. The pair defeated Romania’s Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau in the final. That year, the Spaniard also finished fourth in the men’s singles event, losing to Kei Nishikori in the bronze medal match.Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, will make his Olympics debut just weeks after his Wimbledon triumph.

As reported by Spanish publication AS, the two Spanish tennis heavyweights will start training on the courts of Roland Garros on July 22. It is not clear whether they will train together, as Alcaraz has booked a court from 11 am to 1 pm while Nadal has a session reserved for 3 pm.

Carlos Alcaraz has had an incredible 2024 season so far, registering 33 wins out of 39 matches. Apart from his successful title defense at Wimbledon, the 21-year-old also won the French Open and the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Rafael Nadal, on the other hand, has won 11 out of 17 matches so far in 2024.

Rafael Nadal got some serious game time under his belt before the Paris Olympics. The Spaniard competed in both the singles and doubles competitions at the Nordea Open in Bastad.

He beat the likes of Leo Borg, the fifth seed Cameron Norrie, the fourth seed Mariano Navone, and Duje Ajdukovic to reach his first final of the 2024 season. Here, the 38-year-old lost 6-3, 6-2 to seventh seed Nuno Borges.Nadal partnered Casper Ruud in the men’s doubles tournament in Bastad, the duo having received a wildcard. They reached the semifinals with wins over second seeds Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Guido Andreozzi, and Roman Safiullin and Theo Arribage.The pair were set to face the third-seeded Brazilian duo of Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos but Nadal withdrew in order to keep himself fit for the singles final. The 38-year-old’s run in the singles competition saw him climb 100 spots up to 161st in the ATP rankings.
