Novak Djokovic comes packed with surprises, some upsetting and some super exciting. The Serb disappointed everyone after confirming his withdrawal from the season-ending Paris Masters and the ATP Finals. However, he brought a smile to fans’ faces a month later. The 38-year-old, surprisingly, appointed arch-rival Andy Murray as his coach for the Australian Open, slated to kick off on January 12, 2025. Now with days left for their maiden appearance in Melbourne, the Serb has sent a hilarious message to his British coach.

Both players joined forces after Nole endured a title drought last season. Hoping to bring about a positive change with the assistance of Murray’s unparalleled expertise in tactic formation, Djokovic publicized their alliance on social media. “Our battles were some of the most epic in tennis history. They called us game-changers, risk-takers, and history-makers. I thought our story was over, but it turns out there’s one final chapter. It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Welcome aboard, Coach Andy Murray,” the Serb said.
Murray is, however, not accompanying Djokovic for his season-opening act at the Brisbane International. But ahead of their partnership at AO, the Serb made a hilarious revelation about Murray’s whereabouts during an on-court interview.

“He’s actually skiing at the moment, he has a family skiing trip. Sending my love to the Murray family… I hope he doesn’t get injured before he comes to Melbourne,” Djokovic said after winning his singles opening-round encounter against Rinky Hijikata.

The Briton retired from tennis in August this year but his professional commitments in the sport are far from done. He has taken charge of helping Djokovic clinch his record-extending 11th Melbourne Slam next month and Djokovic is all praise for his newly appointed coach.

The rival history of the Serbian Novak Djokovic and 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray isn’t recent. Their journey dates back to their days as juniors on the circuit. As they’re due for their maiden outing in Melbourne as player and coach, the Serb revealed how the Brit’s presence in his coaching camp was essential in more ways than one.

Djokovic told the reporters during a pre-tournament presser in Brisbane: “He has a unique perspective on my game as one of the greatest rivals I’ve had. He knows the pros and cons of my game. He played until recently on the tour, so he knows all the other best players currently in the world, the youngsters, and the weaknesses and strengths in their game. I look forward to it, I really do. I think he’s bringing a fresh look to my game and I’ll be able to benefit from that, no doubt, on the court. But also that champion mentality he has, I’m sure we’ll match very well.”
