At the beginning of May this year, Camila Giorgi surprised all tennis fans by announcing the end of her competitive career ( more HERE ).
The 32-year-old Italian played her last match on a professional court with… Iga Świątek . During the March WTA 1000 tournament in Miami, the Pole gave her no chance in the 2nd round match, winning in two sets (6:1, 6:1).
The former tennis player – she held her highest position in the WTA ranking at the end of 2018, when she was 26th in the world – must now fend off media accusations of… brazen theft.
According to the findings of “Corriere della Sera”, Giorgi and her father were supposed to have left the villa they were renting in Calenzano (in the Tuscany region) without settling the payments for a period of six months with the owner. In addition, antique furniture worth about 100 thousand euros (about 430 thousand zlotys) “disappeared” from the house.
Giorgi, after weeks of silence (the athlete did not give any interviews or appear in the media before and after the announcement of her decision), decided to respond to these accusations. “Unfortunately, a worthless journalist creates fake content to get a few more clicks on his page. He would even sell his dignity,” she wrote in a story on InstaStories.
“I have a lawyer who is in constant contact with me and if I had any legal problems, I would not have returned to Italy two weeks ago. I will be back soon!” – summed up the winner of four WTA tournaments in her career, who has earned… over 6 million US dollars (approx. 24 million PLN) on the court.
