The beginning of the 21st century was great for the Sopot and of course Polish tennis community. It was in this city, 20 years ago, that Rafael Nadal won his first ATP tournament in his career , defeating Jose Acasuso in the final (6:3, 6:4).
A year later, Gael Monfils also came to Sopot. Over the years, several other famous names have appeared.
Unfortunately, the building is currently in a deplorable state. Sad photos were posted on social media by Damian Kust.
“I was near the venue in Sopot where Rafael Nadal and Gael Monfils won their first ATP Tour titles. Five years ago I was still watching Stefano Travaglia dominate the Challenger here,” wrote a journalist writing for, among others, “Last Word On Tennis”.
“It’s quite a sad sight now. You can’t even get through the gate because it’s about to collapse,” he added.
