Novak Djokovic Sends Cheerful Message to Andy Murray Following Successful Brisbane Opener

Novak Djokovic couldn’t help but share a light-hearted quip about his new coach , wishing him well on his skiing holiday after kicking off his season with a stellar performance at the Brisbane International.

The Serbian superstar, currently seeded No. 1 in the tournament, marked the start of his season with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Australian in the ATP 250 event.

As Djokovic eyes his 100th career title and gears up for the Australian Open, where he seeks to extend his record to an 11th title, he looks set for a busy campaign ahead.

Although Murray wasn’t in attendance at the Brisbane event, Djokovic took a moment to extend his warm regards to his coach, who is currently enjoying a family ski trip. “He’s Murray actually skiing at the moment,” Djokovic shared.

“I’m sending my love to all the Murray family. I hope he doesn’t get injured skiing before he comes to Melbourne; that wouldn’t be great. We’ve been in touch before the match and we’re communicating daily. Having him in my corner excites me. For over 20 years, we’ve been rivals on the court, and now for the first time, he’s on the same side. It should be fun in Melbourne!”

Djokovic’s match against Hijikata was quite straightforward, lasting just 75 minutes, during which the 37-year-old faced no break points and broke his opponent three times, sealing the victory with a break in the final game.

This match marked Djokovic’s first official outing since the Masters in October, and he demonstrated no signs of rustiness. The former world No. 1 expressed that while he deemed the win “important,” he anticipated performing well.

“I always expect myself to do well on the court. Obviously, a win is a win. Starting the new season with a win holds significant importance,” Djokovic commented. “I believe Hijikata deserves a round of applause for his performance tonight. He was exceptional and certainly made me work for the victory.”

Next up for Djokovic is a showdown against Gael Monfils, who advanced past rising US star Nishesh Basavareddy in a competitive three-set encounter on Tuesday. With Djokovic historically dominating their head-to-head record at 19-0, he goes into the matchup as a firm favorite.

This 19-0 head-to-head against Monfils stands as one of the most dominant records in the ATP era.
