Andy greeted the crowd at the Centre Court and received a splendid tribute from his great rivals. Despite the presence of the Big 3 in his own time, Murray has taken a lot of satisfaction becoming one of the best players of the modern era. The Scotsman has beaten legends like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic several times, putting his body at risk and causing numerous injuries. Andy will also give his best at the Paris Olympics, which will be played on red clay at the French Open. The British legend won two gold medals in singles, respectively at London 2012 (beating Federer in the final) and at Rio 2016 (defeating Juan Martin del Potro in the final).
“Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament @Olympics,” Andy Murray wrote on X. “Competing for Great Britain have been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m extremely proud to get to do it one final time!”
Mauresmo on Andy Murray
Speaking with L’Equipe, Amelie Mauresmo – former Andy Murray’s coach between 2014 and 2016 – talked about the 3-time Grand Slam champion: “With him, I quickly found my marks. It was a little more complicated with his team at the beginning, but we cleaned things up and it became fluid. The point is that Andy is very demanding. He asks 100% of everyone, or more. But it seems perfectly normal to me.”

During the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic paid tribute to his friend Murray: “The first time I met Andy, I was 12. We go very long back. We were never too close on the tour because it’s difficult, you’re rivals. We always had tremendous respect for each other, shared the stage, so to say, for many, many years. I think there is only maybe one week difference in age. Our trajectory to the professional tour and top of the men’s game is pretty similar. I mean, not much was separating our careers.
If this is his last match, obviously it’s sad that he’s not able to finish on his own terms in singles. Playing alongside his brother is probably even more emotional for everyone – for them, for the family, for this tournament, for the tennis in general. I do wish him all the best in his farewell. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to come back again. He’s an incredible competitor. Resilience that you can definitely study and teach young athletes.”
Murray made tennis history and deserves a fitting conclusion to his amazing career. The former world number 1 has struggled with injuries in recent years and has failed to compete at the highest level, but he continued to train hard and be a role model for younger players.
Murray never gave up
WTA legend Serena Williams also praised Andy: “Also hold a special place in my heart to you, because you always speak out so much for women. And everything that women deserved you were the leader in that. The things you said about myself and Venus, so many things about how we were always so inspiring and what we meant to you it really went such a long way in my heart.
I feel like watching you win Wimbledon and the US Open and those gold medals were so exciting and I just truly enjoyed it. So I have always been such a fan as you already know and I will always be cheering for you in whatever you decide to do next. So congratulations on such an amazing career.”
