Lewis Hamilton surprised at the sudden surge in performance at the Belgian GP

After a subpar on-track performance on Friday and Saturday race sessions at Spa, Lewis Hamilton was surprised to see how the Mercedes W15 found pace in Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Speaking in the post-race interview on F1TV, Hamilton expressed his surprise and explained how the car’s performance suddenly took a 180-degree turn after Friday and Saturday. He later praised the on-track and factory team for working hard and allowing Mercedes to bag a 1-2 finish at Spa.

“We had such a disaster on Friday. The car was really nowhere. We made some changes, hard to see what it was going to feel like because of the wet yesterday, but the car was fantastic today and we really owe it to everyone, both here doing a solid job with pit stops and strategy, and the guys back at the factory,” Hamilton said.

Though Mercedes’ George Russell bagged the victory with Lewis Hamilton finishing second, they later learned that Russell’s W15 was 1.5 kilos underweight and was disqualified. Hence, they lost the 1-2 finish, and the win was inherited by Hamilton.
