Carlos Alcaraz had to stop his on-court interview with Alex Corretja after losing in the Olympics men’s singles gold medal match to Novak Djokovic, unable to get his words out through his tears.

Djokovic got revenge for the Wimbledon final just three weeks ago by defeating the reigning SW19 and French Open champion 7-6(3) 7-6(2), completing the set and achieving every possible accolade in tennis.
Alcaraz is the future of tennis though, but will leave Paris with a gold medal still eluding the 21-year-old after he and Rafael Nadal could not secure a dream gold medal in the doubles competition.

Novak Djokovic booed during Olympics final vs Carlos Alcaraz as Serb baffled
It was clear for all to see at Roland Garros just how much the gold medal meant to both players, with Djokovic shaking and sobbing after coming through a second tiebreak.
Alcaraz similarly struggled to compose himself and was in tears when taking his seat on the sidelines, as his Serbian victor leapt into the crowd to share the moment with his team.
Then as Alcaraz attempted to react to the match with his compatriot and on-court interviewer Corretja, he had to stop the conversation.
He was then consoled by Corretja, putting his arm around his fellow Spaniard, before giving Alcaraz the space to go behind him and continue analysing the match on his own, before Alcaraz later returned to the interview.

“I gave everything,” Alcaraz said through his tears, before conceding that his 37-year-old opponent played better in the two tiebreaks.
“It’s painful to lose the way I lost this match,” he added. “I had my chances to probably be up in the match. I couldn’t take it. Novak was playing great. He deserves this. In the tough moments he increased his level.
“He played unbelievable shots… an unbelievable game. I’m a bit disappointed but honestly I’ll leave the court with my head really really high. Fighting for Spain was everything to me. I’m proud with the way I played today.”

Meanwhile, Djokovic was full of praise for his opponent, who he believes continues to spur him on and challenge the Serb to be the best possible version of himself in order to compete for titles.
“We almost played three hours in just two sets,” Djokovic told Corretja. “An incredible battle and fight. When the last shot went past him, it was the only moment I thought I could win the match. I mean I believed I could win, but to actually win it.
“[Alcaraz] keeps on coming back, he keeps on asking me to play my best tennis. I thought the first set I started well. I had chances, he had chances as well. It was fair to finish both sets on a tiebreak.”
