Despite winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games, Carlos Alcaraz broke his own tradition by not getting a tattoo to mark the achievement. Off the back of winning the French Open and a second consecutive Wimbledon title, Alcaraz reached the final of the games in Paris.

Having emphatically destroyed Djokovic in straight sets in the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz was beaten 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) by the Serbian in the French capital, who went on to describe the gold medal as the “biggest sporting achievement I have had”. Alcaraz, 21, has tattoos celebrating his Grand Slam title wins at the US Open, Wimbledon and the French Open, as well as one dedicated to his grandfather.
Many athletes who compete in the games also get a tattoo of the Olympic rings to mark their participation. However, Alcaraz displayed his winning mentality when he said he will not be marking his silver medal with a tattoo as he only does that when he wins a competition.

Shortly after he arrived in the United States for this summer’s Cincinnati Open, Alcaraz was asked if he will be adding more ink to his body. After laughing, he said: “No, because I didn’t get the gold. If I could have won the gold medal, I would have gotten a tattoo.”
When asked if he has brought his medal with him to the States, he also replied: “It’s at home! It is close to the Wimbledon and Roland Garros trophies in the living room. It’s over there.”
After the Games, Alcaraz delayed his start to the hard court season by a week, opting not to take part in the Canadian Open. His first match at the Cincinnati Open will be in the second round, when he faces either Gael Monfils or Alexei Popyrin.
But while his thoughts are firmly towards the hard court season and the upcoming US Open, he admitted that he was disappointed not to win gold in either the singles or the doubles, where he partnered Rafael Nadal.

He added: “Obviously, nobody knows what’s going to happen in the future, if I’m going to reach the final again. For example, Rafael Nadal won the gold medal in 2008, and he couldn’t make the final again in the Olympic Games. I’m probably going to have another chance in the future. But I’m not sure about it.”

When Alcaraz won his first French Open title, he got a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower and the date of his match on his skin. He also marked his first US Open win by etching the date “11.09.22” on his arm.
After winning Wimbledon, the Spaniard commemmorated the moment with a tattoo in the shape of a strawberry, the iconic snack at SW19. In and amongst these tattoos, he also has a sentimental tattoo dedicate to his grandfather on his wrist. He has “cabeza”, “corazon” and “cojones” tattooed on his wrist, which translate roughly as head, heart and bravery.
