Has Venus Williams “Evolved” From Tennis Like Sister Serena Williams? Honest Answer Nearly Confirms Retirement

Is Venus Williams’ legacy in tennis overshadowed by Serena’s, or does she stand out on her own?

In 2022, the question was: Is Venus Williams going to follow her younger sister Serena Williams into retirement? At that time, Rennae Stubbs was heard saying, “I think that it would very much surprise me if Venus Williams doesn’t retire as well at the US Open.” Interestingly, even after almost two years of Serena Williams’ retirement, we’re still searching for an answer as to whether Venus Williams would “evolve” away from tennis just like her younger sister. Her honest confession during a recent interview with Good Morning America might just have sparked the chances.

In the last two seasons, Venus Williams has played just 12 matches as of now. She was last seen in action in March this year at the Miami Open. After that, the 7-time Grand Slam champion has maintained a fair bit of distance with the court. Instead, she has taken up other ventures to keep her engaged while she’s off-the-court. The 44-year-old tennis star recently wrote a book named, ‘Strive: 8 Steps to Find Your Awesome.’ Venus Williams spoke about this book and many more during her interview with Good Morning America.

She talked about the 2024 US Open and how close the American players were to clinching the title in this major. Then she was asked if she ever misses being thick of all the actions on the court. Her reply to this was, “You know I haven’t played since March. So, I’ve been doing other things like writing this book, so I’ve been busy. But it’s good to have different things in life. I think it makes you appreciate you know, other parts.“

Speaking about dreams well, in July last year she insisted that even playing at the age of 50 is not out of the question. “It’s never been done before so if there is anyone who could do it, it would be me,” said Venus Williams. She revealed Grand Slam tournaments mean the most to her but at the same time, she believes she has to be really “competitive” to take part in these big events. Despite being vastly experienced the 44-year-old believes, “I’m not carrying a torch for anyone. My motivation is to keep going just as I have always done. I have reached a level that few others reach in life or anything.” All she now wants is to enjoy the journey, but what did Serena Williams say to her on her retirement plans?

According to Venus Williams’ statement from January 2024, “My little sister, Serena, told me I’m not allowed to quit, and of course, I would never quit. But it’s the mandate. She said no, so I will be back on the court.” Her journey with the racquet in her hand has truly been amazing. Fans never want this show to end, but still, age, injuries, and multiple other issues force the players to bring an end to a job that they love doing. That’s the story in the life of every athlete. Which is your favorite moment from Venus Williams’ astonishing career?
